Last week's story on Pilotonline.com about the Mooney M20F aircraft crash highlights the importance of two key missions of the Civil Air Patrol, aerospace training and emergency services. CAP's aerospace education efforts ensure that all CAP members (seniors and cadets) have an appreciation for and knowledge of aerospace issues and technology. Every year CAP cadets and seniors perform vital emergency services operations, including search and rescue operations such as those conducted in recent small aircraft crashes. It is estimated that the Civil Air Patrol saves close to 100 lives each year through such efforts.
